The application of dynamic loads to loose, saturated deposits may result in their liquefaction. Principia has studied this problem, sometimes to evaluate its possible future occurrence and to design appropriate preventive measures, other times to interpret the causes and sequence of past accidents.
These studies have been performed in all types of environments, both onshore and in the sea bottom, involving foundations of tanks for liquefied natural gas, electricity generating plants, tailings impoundments, wind turbines, bridges, slopes and many more. The sites studied include the artificial island of the Oresund Link, connecting its tunnel and bridge stretches, and the Devonport Docks for nuclear powered submarines in the UK.
