Fire effects on a concrete girder

Thermal transients caused by fires

Fire vulnerability studies allow determining for how long a structure will maintain its integrity under the action of fire. Principia has studied the thermal transients caused by fires in various types of structures, analysing the time evolution of the stresses and the progressive weakening of the structure.

The figures show a finite element model used in an analysis of this type, indicating the distribution of maximum principal stresses developed at a certain instant in the process.
