Blow moulding

Manufacturing an admission tube

Some parts are manufactured by introducing a parison into a mould and using then gas pressure to adjust the parison to the mould. A question that needs to be answered is the distribution of thicknesses that the manufactured part will have, and ideally it should be answered without too much trial and error.

For the admission tube of a Diesel engine, we first developed a methodology to predict the position of the parison within the cavity of the mould. Having determined the configuration before the blowing, we then simulated the blowing process to determine the resulting thicknesses and to calibrate the thickness predictions.
